Veterans Day is officially observed every year on November 11—the day in 1918 that World War I ended—although I believe Veterans Day should be observed every day of the year; it is in my heart.
As you ponder the ways in which our military men and women protect us and our democracy, consider supporting one of these terrific organizations:
Guardian Angel Medical Service Dogs
Each of these groups is described on this page of ADogsLife.com, along with many others you might want to consider supporting. If there is an organization you would like to see listed on this page, please contact me.
You’ll find a few blogs here that shine a spotlight on our military men and women and MWD (Military Working Dogs). If you are active or retired military and would like to contribute a blog about how a dog at home or with you in the service has enriched your life, please contact me. I’d love to share your story.
One of my favorite podcasts is Dog Save The People. In honor of Veterans Day, here’s a link to one of many interviews in which the host has conducted an interview related to dogs and our servicemen and women, How A Marine’s Service Dog Made The Difference.

Hi! My name is Jeff and I’m a Marine Corps Veteran. I fought in the Gulf War. I have been diagnosed with PTSD and Physical Disabilities as well. I was incarcerated for just over 27 years and have been out for 4 and a half years now. I received little to No help from service organizations, but I reached out to other incarcerated Vets and I was able to file for a service connected disabilities. I’m now 100% P & T service connected. I own my own home and live alone. It’s not easy some days and I do get depressed. I have a Husky Named Mika and she is my best friend. I also have another Vet training a service dog for me right now. She’s a black Lab and Her Name is Storm. If I didn’t have these animals I would be in trouble. Having shared all this I really glad that I found this blog because it will help me be a better and more knowledgeable dog owner. Thank You.
